Aladdin

Aladdin
Aladdin (1992)

IMDB rating: 7.70

Plot: Aladdin is a street-urchin who lives in a large and busy town long ago with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace that overlooks the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets Aladdin. Under the orders of the evil Jafar (the sultan’s advisor), Aladdin is thrown in jail and becomes caught up in Jafar’s plot to rule the land with the aid of a mysterious lamp. Legend has it that only a person who is a “diamond in the rough” can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin might fight that description, but that’s not enough to marry the princess, who must (by law) marry a prince.

Kit wants to play in the league but is upset to hear that it is Dottie who is chosen to play for the AAPGL. (All American Pro Girls League) Dottie refuses to play unless Kit can come along. When they are going to try out they meet Doris and Mae because Doris threw a baseball at Dottie who caught it impressing Doris. They girls find out their new manager is Jimmy Dugan. Jimmy Dugan drinks a lot and is the worst manager until Dottie get through to him and he becomes a better person. Miss Cuthbert makes sure the rules are followed, no boys, no drinking or smoking until Mae poisons her meal. The girls go to party and Marla who had been overlooked a lot is noticed by a guy named Nelson. Dottie’s husband Bob is in the army and when news comes that a man in the army has been killed it turns out to be Betty Spaghetti. After awhile, Kit feels that once again like at home she is behind Dottie’s shadow. Dottie notices it to and asks to be transferred to another team. Of course Mr. Lovitz doesn’t want the best player to be transferred so he has Kit transferred to Racine. Kit feels that Dottie did this on purpose. Kit plays for the Racine while Dottie plays for Rockford. In the final scene Dottie is crashed into by Kit and she drops the ball, letting Racine win, making Kit have her own stardom instead of being in Dottie’s shadow. The girls have a reunion and they remember the fun they had together.

question to Arsenal, Chelsea, United and our own fans (Liverpool)?
(question is not exclusive to fans of these four clubs - Man City, Spurs and Villa fans feel free to answer this too - as your clubs are clearly starting to make an impact to what happens at the top - Everton fans are also welcome to answer this, far too big a history not to let Everton fans not answer this….)

SORRY ITS LONG ! ARRGH ! ^_^

which would you prefer your club rather achieved

1. Premier League title

2. JUST missing out on the Prem title to one of the other 3, but winning the Euroepan Cup, Fa Cup and League Cup instead.

so think it through.

choice 1) Premier League Title (but no domestic or european cup)

choice 2) European Cup, FA Cup, League cup - thats a treble really.

alternatively -

which of these two would u prefer your cllub achieved ?

choice 3) Premier League Title, FA Cup , League cup = Domestic League cup treble

choice 4) European Cup

As a Liverpool fan - I’d take the Premier League over the European Cup+FA Cup+League Cup, simply because of the recent league title drought at my club since 1990.

Likewise, I’m GUESSING Arsenal fans wouldn’t mind if they didn’t win the Premier League Title - and won te European Cup+FA Cup+League Cup instead, since you guys have never won the elite european trophy in your history.

United fans - I’m GUESSING you’d happily accept the outcome of missing out on the prem title , coming 2nd to us on just goal difference - BUT - winning the Champions League + FA Cup + League Cup, since you’d like to add more European Cup honours on your list yes ?

Chelsea fans - im GUESSING - you’d also accept a season where you missed out on the Prem Title and won the Champions League+FA Cup+League cup instead yes ? since you came so close in 2008.

but - enough guessing.

i’d like to hear your thoughts and opinions on this.

Premier League title only vs Champions League+FA Cup+League Cup ?

as for choices 3 and 4, I’d prefer us to do a domestic league+cup treble , over a European Cup(champions league) triumph as we’ve won it fives times already.

but im more interested on choice 1 vs 2 .

please get back to me on this everyone.

I would happily take the FA, the league and the champions league just because it would be amazing just to win something and the european, as you said, we have never won.

then i think choice 3. the big cups are the ones that anyone would want to win and if you have the smaller ones added to that then i guess its an extra.

Chappers: Wenger's Optician | Feb 04, 2010

Anything would do!

Personally I’d prefer 1, because it is a battle over the whole season while the cups are just games every so often which a lot of teams put weakened teams out for while they always put out full strength teams which proves that we were the best team over that particular season.

Raising Cain (1992)

IMDB rating: 5.60

Plot: Jenny Nix, wife of eminent child psychologist Carter Nix, becomes increasingly concerned about her husband’s seemingly obsessive concern over the upbringing of their daughter. Her own adulterous affair with an old flame, however, causes her to neglect her motherly duties until a spate of local kidnapings forces her to accept the possibility that he may be trying to recreate the twisted mind-control experiments of his discreditied psychologist father.

Can my neice claim my daughter on her income tax return?
My daughter has been living with my niece since August 2008. I pay child support (not court ordered) to my niece for my daughter staying with her (their choice, not mine). Now she is raising cain and making threats about getting me in trouble with the IRS for using her on my taxes last year. She is also saying no matter what, she is claiming her on her income taxes this coming season. Can she claim her? Doesn’t she have to be her legal guardian or parent or have legal custody of her?

In 2008, your daughter did not live with your niece for more than six months, so your niece could not claim your daughter. If your daughter lived with you for more than six months, you would claim your daughter (I assume your daughter is under age 19 or under age 24 and a full-time student).

In 2009, your daughter lived with your niece, which I assume is the daughter of your brother or sister. This makes your daughter a cousin of your niece. In order for your niece to claim your daughter, all of the following must be true:

1. Your daughter lived with your niece all year.
2. Your niece provided over half of your daughter’s support.
3. Your daughter had income subject to tax of less than $3,650.

If the above is true, your niece can claim your daughter as a "qualifying relative" only for the exemption of $3,650 and no tax benefits such as the Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Credit, or Head of Household filing status.

I assume no other closer relative lives in the household with your daughter and niece. In this case, you can claim your child if you provided over half of your child’s support. You would claim your child as a dependent and could get the Child Tax Credit. You could not get the Earned Income Credit or Head of Household filing status based on your child because your child does not live with you.

ninasgramma | Dec 17, 2009

If your daughter lived with your niece for the ENTIRE year and your niece paid more than half of her support, your niece has the legal right to claim her.

You wouldn’t be in trouble for claiming her on your last year’s taxes, since she lived with you for more than half the year.
rtfm | Dec 16, 2009

The IRS goes by where the child is sleeping at night.

Since the child is NOT sleeping at your house, you can’t claim her as a qualifying child.

However, since your niece and your daughter are COUSINS, she can’t claim her as a qualifying child either (and yes, the IRS will ask for the birth certificates so they will figure this out).

In order for your niece to claim her as a qualifying relative (not for HOH, not for EIC and not for the child tax credit), your niece has to prove she had her all year *and* she personally provided more than half of her support. Your child support money is money YOU provided not her.

Have your neice do the support test in irs pub 501, page 20. if you paid more than half, you get to claim her; if she pays more than half she does–but only as a qualifying relative. Neither one of you gets HOH, EIC or the child tax credit.
the tax lady | Dec 16, 2009

Legal custody is irrelevant so let’s get that out of the way first off. The next point is that since your daughter did not live in your home for more than half of 2009, YOU cannot claim her at all under the Qualifying Child rule. Unless you can prove that you provided more than half of her support (unlikely but not impossible) you can’t claim her under the Qualifying Relative rule either..

Beyond that, it’s really irrelevant as to whether your niece can claim your daughter or not from your perspective. A cousin can’t be claimed as a Qualifying Child but if she provided more than half of your daughter’s support she can claim her as a Qualifying Relative.

The best bet is for you and your niece to sit down with a copy of IRS Pub 501 and run the numbers on the support worksheet on page 20. This will substantiate who provided what in the way of support and if anyone provided more than 50%, that’s the party who gets the exemption.
Bostonian In MO | Dec 16, 2009

if she lived in her household the ENTIRE YEAR, did not have income of $3650 and your niece provided more than 50% of her support, as well as your daughter not claimed on the return of anyone else, she can be a qualifying relative
in this case, I think the vital requirement here is the more than 50% support, and that may be difficult to prove since you are paying support too

What are the different categories of contribution to the cricket section?
Friends,

I have come across many questions asking for user rating etc.. I was wondering what categories would you put users contribution. Eg: knowledge of facts, cricket playing wisdom, quizzing ability , humor etc…many more.

Case in point take 2 contributors : Asterix and Incredible Indian. I have no idea about their knowledge of facts (which can always be gleaned from the internet, anyway!), however, I find their answers interesting to read, because of humour, wit or intelligence. It holds true for many others as well for different reasons. Or how will you categorize MBTM, without whom this would be a dead section. Then because I am a old member here..there were others now extinct like Romper stomper (for his extreme but very funny views) and Quandary (for humour and diplomacy)..anyways these have nothing to do with knowledge, but makes this place interesting.

I have given some examples to illustrate how non-knowledge related contributions by some users have made this section interesting (frankly, if you ask me..you guys should make an effort to bring all these guys back).

1. So what do you think are the different categories of contribution eg., wit, knowledge etc make a contribution here?

2. How do you rate contributions for example does knowledge appeal to you or is it humour. so: Is humour #1, or is knowledge #1 etc.

Thanks

Rehman of Multan
Good night

Hi Rehman

I thought it no secret that I am the "User formerly known as Quandry". Thanks for the compliment.

(I try hard to be diplomatic - on a few occasions I’ve lost the plot with users who are ‘aggressive’ but I believe all have a right to an opinion. No one has the right to threaten other users. Certain revolting things and threats have been uttered to both myself and my daughter on here and while they don’t scare me, I’ve tended to get a bit bored with it and now only answer things I find particularly interesting.)

I would rate: Humour and Knowledge highly but there are also categories of Humanity (in which you and Evankutty rate highly for example), Bloody-minded Ignorance (I won’t name names - we all know who) and well place passion - folk like Binga and Asterix for the most part.

All except bloody-minded ignorance are welcome in my house! For the most part the section is far better than it was a year ago.

Cheers Rehman Bhai! Good night

Good after noon Bhayya
For me, it is a sense of fairness and humour; knowledge you can get, humour and fairness is in born, that can’t be developed. In that respect I like even controversial posts: that of MBTM, Wayne, Aussy pride, NWO, Sunny etc, though I rarely respond (there is nothing to say; most Of the times they ask and answer in the same breath.
Vassaram’s posts are too intellectual, I get the feeling I’m back in the class room.
Mitch, Roger, Astrix, Mamba, Crystal, Bingalee, Julia, Ange, Bond 27. Bond, Amit, Kookie.. and some more I don’t remember now, are good users and I always respond to their qs.
Evankutty | Jan 11, 2009

I like a bit of knowledge & an equal amount of humour. As for MBTM, he is lying low after Australia’s win last night, but he’ll be back, large as life.

Edit: I should add that you yourself lend a certain dignity to this section.
Bingalee | Jan 11, 2009

Dear Rehman bhai,

Thanks for dedicating a question with regards to my contribution in this section.
Its heartening to see, that you appreciate my answers which are basically a reflection of my normal self.

Personally speaking, I like to give my opinions regarding players, matches, officials, or stats in a subtle and soft way with a tinge of humour.

Of course, humour cannot be the #1 criterion, we definitely need proper knowledge of the game to understand what we are talking of.
What I prefer in an answer though, is a clear view without being too critical about other countries and players.
Humour quotient is an added advantage if the same message can be conveyed in the lighter vein!!!

Once again, I thank you bhai for this gesture!!!

Have a good sleep in order to welcome a great day tomorrow!! :-)

EDIT:
And I fully agree with Binga Ma’am that your answers and thoughts are dignity personified!
You are indeed a very warm and thorough gentleman in the highest regard.
Incredible Indian!!! | Jan 12, 2009

Knowledge is still no.1

I get to know a lot from users like The Oracle,VSSarma,Padmanabhan,
OIM,Kookee,
ph,Bill P,Ben,….. which is difficult to google out,or might not even be on the internet
(cricketing knowledge as well as international and domestic politics and other topics)

Humor is also needed,I agree

Quizzing requires only google and cricinfo,it’s just that you should
be able to do it fast.
vicky | Jan 12, 2009

Well i do no a fair bit about cricket and when my opinion is needed i give it.
I am also an experienced opening bowler and i have been assistant coach of an U10’s team (kids team age 10 and under) so if their is a question asking how to bowl better i can answer that pretty well. Not so muchh with batting help though!! lol

Although most of the time i am here for fun and to make this section fun for others as well, I don’t mind throwing in a witty answer either!

I think this section is balanced with funny, witty, smart, knowledgable, controversial and intelligant users!
> Mitch < | Jan 12, 2009

Humor is more appealing to me, I have had more humor in this section more than knowledge.

I have admired Wayney’s answers especially , he makes fun of other users,I know its a bit unfair to laugh at other’s expense but I dont mind laughing at MBTM’s expense,LMAO

Others are ofcourse Asterix, need I say why?

Even you have a good subtle sense of humor, its just that people dont understand your actual meaning, many think you are a serious user.

To talk about myself, Iam a combination of both, I enjoy fun on what makes me feel funny and Iam serious on what makes me feel serious

While there are a handful few who are very serious and dont like controversies or fun
Black Mamba | Jan 12, 2009

1st priority is knowledge … that why we are here in this section…. humor and smartness should be there… and u talk about quiz Q… that was just fun to get some work for 1st one to come up with the rite one to take pride..
arsalan_kashi | Jan 12, 2009

The guys here are pretty serious. they have no sense of humour.

nearly 50% of these guys need to get a life.

To all Aussies- dont take things seriously

To all Indians- Idiot is not a bad word

To all Kiwis -You guys can never beat any side in cricket.
Pissu B | Jan 12, 2009

Cheers mate.
I’ve got to be honest with you. I’m not always funny. As a matter of fact, today I was a bit sad. Because I ran out of CHICKEN!!!
But in all seriousness, I find using humour to be the best way to communicate with others. Everyone loves to laugh. Well… most people anyway! And, as an added bonus, every now and then I actually know what I’m talking about!
By the way. You DO know you asked those questions twice don’t you?
Asterix | Jan 12, 2009

I think theres two types of answers i like.

One is the informative kind that shows that the person has actually put some thought into their answer, backs it up with reasons, and isn’t just saying the first thing on the top of their head, or something that clearly refuses to acknowledge the opposing side.

If they do this, their opinion is actually worth knowing and adds to your knowledge of the game.

The other answers worth reading, are simply the funny ones.

People that restate others answers, or simply give one line answers without reasons, are wasting their time.
